Letters from the Prairie Reader's Theater Admission is $2 per person and Free to SDSU students with ID. This cultural event continues to be an educational celebration of diversity with the Brookings community, State of South Dakota, and surrounding areas. Come enjoy this whole day of events by sharing diverse languages, performances, arts, activities and games, international poster presentations, and international cuisine in a cultural fair setting. Stop by the museum's booth and say hi!
Bob Kolbe created this readers theater from "kept correspondence" he found at a flea market. The letters belonged to a graduate of Southern State Teachers College, dating from the late 1890's. These letters give a glimpse into the life of school teachers' lives on the prairie of central South Dakota from 1900-1915. Images from the period are paired with 3 women's voices in this short production.
On Friday April 9, 2010 the museum will have a booth at the 28th Annual Festival of Cultures. The Festival is on Friday, April 9, 2010 from 9a.m. to 3p.m. in the SDSU Frost Arena.
This week at the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum we will be closed on Friday April 2nd to observe Good Friday. We will be open on Saturday April 3rd from 10:00am - 5:00pm and closed on Sunday April 4th. Starting on April 11th we will be open on Sundays, from 1:00pm - 5:00pm, throughout the summer and fall. We are also open every Thursday until 8:00pm.
We hope you will stop by for a visit this spring and keep checking back to our website for upcoming events. We have two great programs coming in April.

Author Talk & Book Signing
"The Murdered Family",
By Vernon Keel
A Must Read Murder Mystery...Based on a True Story when seven members of a North Dakota farm family and their hired boy are brutally murdered in April 1920 during an intense statewide election campaign, eager investigators encouraged by nervous politicians get a signed confession from a man who argues immediately that he was forced to sign it.
Two very interesting programs, so come on by!
This Sunday from 1-5pm, the jolly old man, himself, will be at the Ag Heritage Museum. We invite you and the children in your life to visit the museum and enjoy cocoa and decorating cookies with St. Nick. Bring your camera and get some great kodak moments!
St. Nick was renowned for his great kindness and his generous aid to those in distress. Continuing on with this tradition the museum will be collecting the following items for the local food pantry:
Canned meats such as Tuna & Chicken;
boxed stuffing, dinners, cereals, pasta, potatoes
Jars and cans of tomatoe/pizza sauce, vegetables, gravy
Pumpkin, cherry or apple pie filling
bags of cranberries or any other item that would help families make a holiday dinner.
For your generosity, when you stop in this Sunday and drop off your food pantry donation at the museum you will receive a coupon good for 50% off one item in the museum store!
